Ski Hire in Marilleva 900: Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we get asked most

Where is Ski Point in Marilleva 900?

We are in Marilleva 900, right inside the gondola building that gives access to the Campiglio Dolomiti di Brenta SkiArea. It is a uniquely convenient spot: the ticket office where you collect your ski pass, our hire shop and our heated storage are all in the same place, and it is exactly where the free ski bus from your accommodation drops you off.

Do I need insurance on my equipment?

When you hire any equipment you become responsible for looking after it, and you are of course required to return it in the same condition in which it was handed over to you at the start of the hire period. If the equipment is not returned, for whatever reason, or is returned damaged, all our hires are subject to a charge based on the equipment price list and the terms displayed in the shop.

Insurance is something we care a great deal about, and we offer it in all honesty as a way of skiing with complete peace of mind. For a small amount, based on the category of equipment you have chosen, you are covered for 100% of its value in the event of any breakage or damage, or if your skis are taken or swapped, which normally happens outside mountain huts.

We would like to make clear that in 99% of cases these are mix-ups rather than thefts: measured against the millions of pairs of skis in the resort over a season, actual thefts are a statistically negligible number. In the event of a theft, a report must be filed with the Carabinieri or the police on the slopes.

When and where do I pay?

Our online booking system does not require any payment in advance — we have kept it deliberately simple. You pay in the shop when you arrive to collect your equipment, so you know you are paying for exactly what you take away, even if you change your mind about the kit when you get here.

Can I change my booking in the shop?

Yes. Subject to availability, there is no problem changing, adding or removing items. The equipment you booked is always guaranteed for you.

Can I collect my equipment the day before?

Yes. From 2 pm the day before, you can collect the equipment you have booked, or hire equipment on the spot, and your rental period will only start counting from the following day.

Please note that once you have confirmed your equipment, you will need either to hire one of our heated lockers to store it, or to take it with you to your accommodation for the whole of the hire period.

What are your opening hours?

We are open from 8 am to 5:30 pm Monday to Friday, and from 8 am to 6:30 pm on Saturdays and Sundays, with no lunchtime closing. Do give us a ring if you are unsure, as we often stay open later depending on when guests are arriving.

Is the hire equipment always freshly serviced?

Yes. Thanks to our Wintersteiger robot, all our skis are kept properly serviced. And if at any point your skis feel slow or the edges are not gripping as they should, just bring them back and we will service them again free of charge.

Are the helmets and boots sanitised?

Every time helmets and boots come back to us, they are sanitised automatically on our drying racks, which release an alcohol-based, antibacterial and lightly perfumed solution into the warm air used for drying.

Do you hire out goggles?

Yes, of course. Our goggles come with a soft elasticated cover that protects the lens.

Why choose the Campiglio Dolomiti di Brenta SkiArea?

Skiing here means finding yourself at the heart of the Brenta Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site, in the largest ski area in Trentino. With 150 km of linked runs you can cover on skis alone, you have an extraordinary variety of terrain connecting Madonna di Campiglio, Pinzolo and Folgarida-Marilleva.

You will find legendary pistes such as the 3-Tre, home to the Alpine Ski World Cup, as well as breathtaking views at 2,500 metres, where the rock spires seem to touch the sky. Beyond the consistently excellent snow, the SkiArea offers gourmet mountain huts for a proper lunch, cutting-edge snow parks for freestylers and a thoroughly modern lift system that keeps queuing to a minimum. It is where the elegance of the mountains meets the pure adrenaline of the sport.

How do I know if a boot is right for me?

The boot is the link between your body and your skis: get it wrong and the whole day is ruined. That is why we offer a free 3D foot scan, which gives us a full picture of your foot in about ten seconds.

When you first put the boot on, sitting down with the buckles undone, your toes will touch the front. Once the buckles are done up and you stand and flex forward into your skiing position, your toes will pull back slightly, leaving just a little room. Remember: a boot that is too big causes blisters and poor control, while one that is too small restricts circulation and leaves your foot cold.

We stock boots in wide and narrow fits, with flex ratings from 70 to 130. Trust our team and you will not regret it — and whatever you do, do not tell them straight away that your toes are touching the front, or they will not be pleased. 🙂

What length of ski should I choose?

There is no single answer, but there is a good rule of thumb: your skis should reach somewhere between your chin and the top of your head. The exact choice depends on your ability, your skiing style and your weight.

If you are a beginner, or if you prefer tight turns and manoeuvrability, go for a shorter ski, roughly chin height. If you are an experienced skier who enjoys speed and wide turns, or if you want stability in fresh snow, choose a longer ski, closer to forehead height. Weight matters too: a heavier skier will need a slightly longer, stiffer ski for proper support, even as a beginner.

Why does servicing matter, and how much difference will I notice?

Many people assume servicing is only needed when skis are visibly damaged, or only if you are an advanced skier. In fact it is essential preventive maintenance, both for safety and for enjoyment. Skis with a dry base and rounded edges will not respond to your input, they slide away on ice, and they take far more physical effort to control.

Regular servicing means restoring the structure of the base so it glides properly, and sharpening the edges so they grip reliably. It is the difference between fighting your skis all day and simply flowing down the mountain.

In our workshop you will find a fully automated Wintersteiger robot, from the world’s leading name in ski preparation.

What is the difference between brush waxing and hot waxing?

Brush waxing takes around five minutes and costs less, but it does not last as long: the wax is applied only to the surface of the base by a heated brush at roughly 70°C. It is the right choice if you are short of time, or if you are only skiing for a day or two.

Hot waxing takes around twenty minutes. The wax is applied with an iron at roughly 130–140°C, so it penetrates into the pores of the base, and thanks to this it will last for several days of skiing.

What is edge tuning?

Edge tuning means setting the angle of the ski edges to within a fraction of a degree, on the underside of the edge — the part in contact with the snow. It slightly softens the angle so the ski does not catch unexpectedly.

The result is remarkable precision through a turn, smooth control, and skiing that feels safer and more enjoyable at every level. The setting usually ranges from 1 degree, which is very forgiving but grips less well on ice, down to 0.5 degrees, which performs far better but suits more technical skiers.

What does flattening a ski mean?

With use, the base gradually distorts, usually becoming convex and, more rarely, concave. This makes the ski unstable and severely reduces the ability of the edges to grip the snow. Having it flattened on our machine brings back the pleasure of skiing and takes away the daily effort you were putting in to compensate. The process also renews the base completely, removing scratches along the way.
